The cosy, cabin-like flavour of this holiday home in Queenstown comes down to a restrained material palette led by Abodo timbers. As it is used as a holiday home, the performance of the weatherboards was also a key consideration, as they are able to withstand extreme changes in temperature without warping or bending.

Using an array of natural finishes and materials, architect Felicity Brenchley’s own coastal home in Mahurangi is designed with sustainability in mind.

Colours had to be dark with glazing recessed below eaves to reduce reflectivity from the marine reserve. This informed the design from the outset, as did our aim to use, durable and sustainable materials such as Abodo."
