Introducing New Growth ™ Feature Timbers, and a bold new look too.

New Growth™ Feature Timbers

What Makes Abodo Different?

Many of us gravitate towards the rich warmth and calming beauty of timber in our homes or workspaces, but carefully selecting where and how we source that timber is crucial for our natural environment.

At Abodo, we believe that old growth forests are irreplaceable and need to be protected. Let us explain...

What is Old Growth and Why Does it Matter?

Ancient, old growth forests - sometimes also called primary, natural, native, or indigenous forests - feature mature trees, abundant biodiversity, and important habitats for native flora and fauna.

These revered and ancient ecosystems can be 1000’s of years old and include the tropical rainforests of Asia, Africa, and South America; Western Red Cedar in Canada; and the native forests of Australia. Once lost, these natural treasures can never be replaced.

New Growth Timbers are the Future

To prevent the destruction of old growth forests and protect the important biodiversity they support, we need to innovate and create sustainable alternatives. New Growth, rapidly renewable forests - sometimes also called planted or plantation forests - are part of the solution.

These purpose-grown forests are designed to regenerate, are fast-growing, and selected to minimise environmental impacts.

Rapidly Renewable Regenerative Radiata

One example is the Radiata Pine forests in New Zealand. These fast-growing trees are ready for harvest in as little as 27 years. They are one of the most effective species for storing carbon due to its fast growth and high yield; by the time it is harvested, a hectare of radiata pine will, on average, have sequestered 488-779 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

These forests, when well managed, offer infinite potential for carbon sequestration, with trees felled for timber products becoming carbon stores and then being replaced by new trees that can fulfil the same role.

Our Timber Partners

Abodo sources New Growth timber through forestry partners, Pan Pac Forest Products and Timberlands, who are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified, meaning that they are committed to responsible timber production that preserves wildlife habitat and protects local water sources from erosion and contamination.

FSC® is a global not-for-profit founded in 1993 by environmentalists, social interest groups, responsible retailers, and leading forest companies to develop global gold standards around what is a responsibly managed forest. As a result, they have transformed forest management and ensured that responsible foresters can maintain long-term productivity.

Enhanced with Innovation

Once harvested, Abodo enhances these timbers with its unique heat tempering and vertical grain technology. These innovative processes transform New Growth timbers to significantly improve durability, stability and weather resilience.

The resulting timber performs like old growth hardwoods, while being straighter, and consistently more dimensionally stable.

Shared Responsibility

It is our responsibility, as producers and consumers, to conserve the world’s unique biodiversity and natural environment. At Abodo, that means supporting consumer demand with New Growth timbers while protecting what’s irreplaceable and leaving our ancient old growth forests intact.
