Today, Abodo announces a breakthrough that reshapes what’s possible in timber design: Vaaro Fire, an ultra durable, fire compliant timber*.

Launching in May 2026, Vaaro Fire is the culmination of more than 25 years of Abodo research and innovation, utilising proprietary technologies that have been developed over decades.

Vaaro Fire is the only fire compliant*, fully tested, coated timber product range produced by a single trusted manufacturer.

Engineering Fire Performance at a Cellular Level

Vaaro Fire begins with Abodo’s signature heat tempered, rapidly renewable New Zealand timber, selected for its stability, sustainability and natural beauty.

What sets Vaaro apart is what happens next.

The timber is infused with a special resin‑based fire retardant treatment, using technology inspired by high performance materials used in space‑grade applications. This resin is pressure impregnated into the timber and then cured at high temperatures to set everything in place.

This process locks fire protection deep into the wood’s cellular structure – not as a surface coating, but as an intrinsic part of the material. The result is a triple modified, highly leach resistant and ultra durable timber, whose fire retardant properties are locked into the wood cells.
