Proven in Civic Architecture

Hamilton Central Library is one of the first completed civic projects to feature Vaaro® Fire, bringing the warmth and character of timber into a large-scale public environment with demanding performance requirements.

Working alongside Edwards White Architects, the design team sought a material solution that could deliver a warm, natural aesthetic while satisfying compliance with New Zealand Building Code requirements for a Type A exterior fire rating.

The specified solution included Vaaro Fire timber cladding in a brushed finish, coated in Protector - Teak, providing both fire compliance and a warm, natural appearance suited to the building's civic character.

• Rated Class 1 (EN350-1), high durability against fungal decay as demonstrated by EN113 ‘UC4’ in ground test results.

Engineered Deep Within

Some treatments sit on the surface, Abodo Vaaro® Fire goes deeper with three stages of modification, creating an advanced timber solution with performance transformed from within. Vaaro Fire is created through a triple modification process:

1. Thermally modification of Radiata pine using Abodo’s 230C custom schedule using only heat and steam for increased stability and durability.
2. Vacuum-pressure impregnation with a resin-based fire retardant solution engineered deep within the timber cells.
3. Heat curing at high temperatures using a proprietary drying schedule to harder and fix the polymer into the wood cells.
