Surrounded by native bush and with views across the harbour to the city, arriving at this home feels like stepping down into a private oasis.

The property stretches from a quiet suburban street to a gentle bay below, with the beautifully gnarled, red-tufted branches of an ancient pōhutukawa tree standing sentry at the north-east boundary.

Designed by Jones Architects, the home embraces this special tree, with an outdoor courtyard positioned for full enjoyment of its canopy.

Twin double-storey wings extend across the site, with one housing the main living area and master suite, and the other accommodating additional bedrooms, along with a library and gym. A linking gallery joins the two wings, with floor-to-ceiling glazing on both sides connecting visually and physically with the courtyard beyond.

In keeping with the homeowners’ Nordic heritage, the palette features natural timbers, pumice-inspired hard surfaces, and a clean, linear aspect that runs through both exterior and interior spaces.

Interiors have been thoughtfully executed by at.space using a considered combination of rich veneer, flecked tiling, warm brass and subdued linen.

On the exterior, Vulcan Cladding with a bandsawn finish in Protector – Natural sets the tone, providing a soft, sympathetic backdrop to the lush bush, furthered by the use of reeded Vulcan Decking underfoot in the courtyard.

Outdoor rooms are designed for year-round living, with the living area opening onto a large, covered al fresco dining and lounge area, with views towards the harbour bridge. Here, Vulcan Screening is used to create dappled light and privacy, while white brick adds textural contrast.
